CHAPTER 7 - INPUT AND OUTPUT

Any data and instructions entered into the memory of a computer

Input Methods

1. Keyboard
Contains keys users press to enter data and instructions into a computer or mobile device.

2. Pointer
A symbol or graphical image on the computer monitor or other display device that echoes movements of the pointing device, commonly a mouse.

3. Touch Screen
Normally layered on the top of an electronic visual display of an information processing system.

4. Pen Input
Captures the handwriting or brush strokes of a user using a digital pen or stylus and converts handwritten analog information created into digital data.

5. Motion Input
On screen elements can be guided by the user by using air gesture. Air gesture includes the movement of body or the handheld device in air.

6. Voice Input
A device in which speech is used to input data or system commands directly into a system.

7. Audio Input

8. Video Input
Process of capturing full-motion images and storing them on a computer or mobile device’s storage medium.

9. Scanners And Reading Devices
A light-sensing input device that reads printed text and graphics and then translates the results into a form the computer can process.

Data that has been processed into a useful form

Output Methods

1. Display
Visually conveys text, graphics, and video information.

2. Monitor
A display that is packaged as a separate peripheral device.

3. Printer
Produces text and graphics on a physical medium.

a) Ink-jet Printer
Recreates a digital image by propelling droplets of ink onto paper, plastic, or other substrates.

b) Laser Printer
It produces high-quality text and graphics by repeatedly passing a laser beam back and forth over a negatively charged cylinder called a "drum" to define a differentially charged image.

c) All-in-One Printer
Single device that prints, scans, copies, and in some cases, faxes.

d) Mobile Printer
The process of sending data to a printer wirelessly from a smartphone or tablet.

4. Speakers
Converts an electrical audio signal into a corresponding sound.

5. Headphones & Earbuds
Pair of small loudspeaker drivers worn on or around the head over a user's ears.
